Pariah Carey

Pariah Carey is the new project of Jheri Evans who blogs at Get Off The Coast. Zwerpy dark beat-ish electro stuff. Taken from last.fm, Pariah Carey is described: "Pariah Carey is the solo music project of Jheri Evans. Influences range from GR†LLGR†LL, Pocahaunted and White Ring to early KISS and Alice Cooper. He also lists 80s horror film soundtracks and various hallucinogenic drugs as other direct influences. Pariah Carey’s music is often ambient and minimal, forcing you to pay attention to each piece of each track with the intent of instilling fear and uneasiness."

Above is my favorite song, "All Sides (Never Scareddd)". Go to Pariah Carey's bandcamp to get an assortment of other tracks and the rest of Keeping The Winter Alive.

:smokesignal:

:smokesignal: is a post-rockish ambient duo from Gainesville, Florida. Last weekend we played a show with them and To All My Dear Friends, they were really good. The melody-maker, Oliver, plays a guitar through his loop station with different effect pedals and has a multi-track recorder for snippets of voices or background chatter; meanwhile, technical drumming keeps a nice percussive flow to it all. Long continious jams, stretched out shoegaze, stargazers.

:smokesignal: - Mapping Out Stars

I didn't get the chance to see them perform with visuals, but it looks cool, below is a video of :smokesignal: performing at The Civic Media Center in Gainesville.

Mandelbrot Fractal Set Trip To e214 HD

"Here is a nice deep zoom into the Mandelbrot set. The words "nice" and "deep" fall a bit short actually.
"Mathematical Porn" is a better description.
After watching this video things in my room started to bend and breathe!! I hope you enjoy the trip!!

The final magnification is e.214. Want some perspective? a magnification of e.12 would increase the size of a particle to the same as the earths orbit! e.21 would make a particle look the same size as the milky way and e.42 would be equal to the universe. This zoom smashes all of them all away. If you were "actually" traveling into the fractal your speed would be faster than the speed of light.

You might like to know that this animation took me about two days to set up. My computer then rendered day and night non-stop for just over a month to produce the animation. The resulting twenty-eight anti-aliased 1280x720 AVI files (each just under 2GB) were each watermarked at full frames (uncompressed) Then I stitched them all together uncompressed. I also added the audio track at the same time. This was all done in Virtual dub. (except watermarking) The final watermarked Avi with audio is a whopping 46GB - Then I compressed it to 495mb so I could upload it onto vimeo. "

Ironing

Ironing is a noise musician from Gainesville, Florida. He uses old tapes and records as a source to manipulate and make something new out of. I watched Ironing play a duo set with Hal McGee at Solder Fest this year and it was awesome. He really gets some expressive sounds out of his turntable. Reminded me of a Black Dice show, super loud experience.

Ironing - Notorious (ft Chefkirk)

Andrew also arranges shows under the name Action Research.

The 61st show is coming up on November 4th and features Mannequin Hollowcaust, Ice Orgy, Craow, Father Finger, Attached Hands, Hear Hums, Hal McGee, Minim, and Frog.

Perspectives

Perspectives is an ambient band from Gainesville, Florida. Recently they played at Solder Fest at the Lab in Gainesville, it was the first time I've seen them. Other than this Discogs page of some cassettes they've put out, I couldn't really find any songs or anything about them.

The setting was quite intimate, everyone sitting together making a half circle around the band as they fiddled with guitar, sampler, tape players, and other things. The had small amps and it was silent in the venue, a very moving experience. Hopefully this video does the performance some sort of justice.

It's my understanding that they've put out four tapes. Maybe sometime in the future we can track down these guys and get some songs online.

To All My Dear Friends

To All My Dear Friends is a band composed of Marc Hennessey (violin / guitar loops) and Greg Stull (drums) from Gainesville, Florida. There are some post-rock, indie rock/pop, jive band elements to their sound, with epic builds of guitar, bass, drums, but they fall into their own category by being the backing to amazing violin melodies. Vocals are used sparingly and reminds of Dirty Projectors or something, really nice. If you were into Mandragora Dream, this may be for you.

Dark Sea Of Awareness - Digital Magic

Yesterday, Dark Sea Of Awareness' album Digital Magic was released digitally through FMLY Records. Below is taken directly from thefmly's site, the album is free so make sure to download it! We just had Dark Sea come up to play a show in Gainesville at The Church of Holy Colors and everytime I'm blown away. He was accompanied by Henry of Attached Hands and supposedly they are starting a project called Temples, something to look for in the near future.

Dark Sea Of Awareness - Mountain Grime (via thefmly)

Dark Sea Of Awareness - Mega Dance Party (via thefmly)

"Ascending the lessons we learned from IDM in the 90s, Orlando’s Dark Sea Of Awareness surpasses the intensity of his name with delightful ambient ballads and a strong support of good taste of pop sensibility. The sounds of the energy flow in batteries charging are evident throughout DSoA’s 10track self-titled release, and his live shows are no less than transcending whether they take place in your pal’s living room or inside of a bike shop. Though powerful enough to move a mass of observers, these jams are subtle in their introversion and although I recommend taking them to a park with your buds on a sunny day I first advise taking this record on a bike ride – and make sure to bring your good headphones. Ringing a delicate balance in the weight these sounds carry, listen loud and let your mind absorb nostalgic rich tonality. "

VIDEO: Tantrum Barb (Oddsac)

I made sure to catch Oddsac in Miami at one of the screenings. Deakin and Danny Perez were there, it was pretty cool to watch the film and talk with them. This is the video for Animal Collective's "Tantrum Barb" from their visual album Oddsac. Probably the danciest song on the album.

MP3: Avey Tare - Lucky 1

So ready to hear Down There. Avey Tare just released the first single "Lucky 1"!

Down There drops on Paw Tracks on October 26th.
By the way, however annoying it may be that someone put their album out as a fake leak for Down There, if you're into indie pop it's really good.

Dirty Fist

Dirty Fist! is the brainchild of two girls named Chelsea from Gainesville, Florida. They are accompanied by other acoustic instruments, snare drum, trombone, etc, while they use an accordian and things like banjo, ukulele, etc. Some parts lean more towards a folk/traditional sound while other times it feels very medieval.

Dirty Fist - Mermaids

Dirty Fist - If The Trees

Their roommate Mujahid recorded live performances from Dirty Fist, us, and a band The Royal Tin Foils from a show at Wayward a week or two ago. Their live set is really interesting, somehow finding a meeting ground for folk punk and more experimental/world sounds.

//Check It Out//

For upcoming shows and stuff like that, check out their myspace page.
