mp3: tree hopping - bird road

If you don't have all of The Beat Band already, let this be the song that motivates you to download it. Perfect indie melodies through a tropical lens, groovy beats. Check this song out.

This is a photo taken by Eddie (Forest Clay) whose the third member of Totally Nebular last weekend down in Pompano Beach at a show where Tree Hopping and God Boat had a collaborative set, switching back and forth of playing each other's jams. Expect a sneak peak of God Boat's new album soon.

Fill Spectrum

Fill Spectrum is an experimental project of a guy named Kevin from Jacksonville, Florida. I got the chance to see him perform with a friend as Fill Spectrum at the Laboratory last weekend for an Electronic Sub South/Action Research show. The performance was a hused ambience with subtle nature sounds drenched in wet delay, and reverby keyboard drones. Fill Spectrum's release An Open Entrance Into A Closed Palace is released on Cassette through Animal Image Search, which has also released the cassette version of Universal Studios Florida's Ocean Sunbirds as well as the vinyl release for Prince Rama's Architecture of Utopia.

Above is the performance from last weekend at the Laboratory.

An Open Entrace Into A Closed Palace is a little more textured and progressing than the live performance, with a lot of different tranisitions and tasteful sounds. Make sure to download it and get it on cassette if you're really feeling it.

Rainbo Video

Rainbo Video is the experimental/visual project of Arturo Evening from Chicago, Illinois. He has several vi made by Arturo himself. Cold, yet eclectic ambient drones. Super calming flowly stuff, I love it. And not just a bedroom project; it's my understanding he brings Rainbo Video live with projected visuals and electronic soundscapes. We'll be catching the experience in February on a Hear Hums/Oh Fortuna tour with a show in Chicago.

Floating Colors

Floating Colors is the experimental trio from Richmond, Virgina. Making textured sound scapes about astral projection, space, and time.
Their live set looks really engaging, I'm glad I'll be checking it out first hand in February when we play with them live in Richmond on a Hear Hums/Oh Fortuna tour.

MP3: Sumsun - Wind Stone

Samo Milagro just came out on cassette by Leaving Records. It's one of my favorite albums already. So flowy, textury, and just forward thinking. I like the way Judson makes music. Check out a new track "Wind Stone" and go over the Leaving Record's website to order it on tape.

Mini Prophets

Mini Prophets is a experimental mathy band from Melbourne, Florida utilizing jazz elements. I had the opportunity to see them live in St Augustine at Blood Moon Fest organized by Lighthouse Music. Their set was really impressive and technical. If I remember correctly, they had two guitar players, a horns player, two drummers, and a bass player. They definitely deserve some attention.

Praything

Praything is the recent incarnation of Ju Kovacevich and his buds from Gainesville, Florida. A year or two ago we played with Ju's prior band Queen of Spain, which was more post-rocky. Praything takes a quirkier angle, with simple keyboard melodies, live looping, and two kit drummers. Their album Born was just released, and it has more acoustic sound and a folk slant, with it's lyrical content based almost soley on Bruce Springstein's Born In The USA.
We've played with them at the Civic Media Center, then again at Totally Nebular's house during the Fest, and finally at the Spin Cycle for Skeletron Ball 2. They performed great and were really fun each time. Download the album Born by Praything for free off bandcamp.

Skeletron Ball 2

Skeletron Ball is a festival set up around Halloween each year by JT Bringardner (Oh Fortuna, Rabbit Punch, Spirit Tramp). Last weekend was the second Skeletron Ball, it was really great to have bands I enjoy play back to back for three days straight. Luckily some of it was filmed.

Lighthouse Music is one of the bands I'm most excited about. They are all skilled at an array of different instruments and make a really interesting type of music.

birdfeeder played some new songs along with some of my old favorites. He has been working on a lot of new material and to my knowledge a new album is close to completion.

Dark Sea of Awareness played one of the best sets I've ever seen of his at Skeletron Ball. A perfect mix of flowy ambient guitar parts and feel-good beatness.

Praything ^

IRONJEW was a collab performance of Ironing and Lissajou, combining the 8-bit gameboy world with broken record scratching noise.

Spirit Tramp's performance involved help of friend musicians to make a full band sound.

Free Space was a collab performance of Hal McGee and Keaton Orsborn walking around a space tinkering with Monotrons through portable amps.

Black Circle Boys were a witch-house sounding group, had a cool creepy sound.

Nervous Systems ^

Roamer ^

^ Telethon

^ Morningbell. This guy had the nicest sounding bass guitar. The singer, Travis I believe is his name, can hit some serious high notes.

Teepee ^

Read an interview with Teepee on Ana(b)log.

There was even a puppet show.

^ The HiFI Evenlope

Sleepover ^

^ Panther God

Reviews of the first two nights of Skeletron can be found on Ana(b)log.

Mikey Mickey Rourke - Glo

I've seen Mickey Mickey Rourke's XOXO comments on just about every relevant band/label's myspace page, so inevitably I had to check out his stuff. I'm glad I did, this video looks really good, directed by Abram Pineda-Fischer.

VIDEO: attached hands - fever

This is the second I've posted of an upcoming Attached Hands DVD release. The video was done by Brian Phillips. Fever is a really intense stimuli overload of spontaneous visions.

On a side note, Attached Hands and Truman Peyote are releasing a 7" split. Attached Hands is having a release show for it at Will's Pub in Orlando on December 2nd. Us, Dark Sea of Awareness, Diamond Man, us, and others are playing.

Maximino

Maximino is a indie band started by Gerald Perez based in Orlando, Florida. I got to check them out for the first time this past weekend at Skeletron Ball 2 at the Spin Cycle in Gainesville. Our friend Eamon Ford played on their set, it was really well put together. There is some sort of post-Grizzly Bear-ness to this, so if you're into them, you'll probably dig Maximino.

Maximino - G.C.S.

These songs are from a collection called Blue Jay on Maximino's bandcamp. To hear more tracks, check out their tumblr and myspace pages.

tree hopping - the beat band

the beat band just dropped. If you didn't know, Gabriel from Totally Nebular makes music solo as Tree Hopping. This is one of the best things I've heard all year. Tropical indie beat pop. Download the whole album for free or donation on bandcamp, and make sure you keep an eye out for the other two Totally Nebular solo releases, God Boat and Forest Clay in the upcoming months.

mp3: Diamond Man - Jungle Gym

Last Tuesday we played with Diamond Man in Tampa at their album release show for Diamond Man Travels. They're one of my favorite live bands and their recordings are awesome as well. Check out this new song from Diamond Man Travels.

philip seymour hoffman / railcars Split

Noah Klien, aka Philip Seymour Hoffman, sent me a 13 minute spacey track which is sort of a cover of "Josie" by blink-182. It's going to be on a split he is doing with railcars of their respective 90s covers, railcars did the Cranberries.

row of x's - olympus mons

row of x's is the bedroom project of a guy named Danny currently based in Gainesville, Florida. I wrote about him before when we played a show or two together in South Florida, and about his release spring clean. Those songs were more folk-based, acoustic songs. On olympus mons, row of x's expands his palette creating a more electro-acoustic feel, with most elements drenched in warm lofi/distortion.
