recently on thefmly's site I stumbled upon Magic Man, a folktronic band from Boston. an atmospheric mix , it's pop songs but that kind of melodramatic overtone really magical too you could say, it's really nice. very well put together and focused it's really easy to fall into these songs. If you like Stars, The Album Leaf, Electric President, etc, you'll really dig this.

an is the experimental project of Antoine Pantoja from San Fransico, California. Recently I got Little Moon Waves , a 6 song collection of electroacoustic minimalism. The sound is shaped very much from a home-recording sound set up, with imaginative mixes and sounds / variations on simplistic melodic riffs with the colorful noises complimenting. Short meditaive pieces , nice vibe.

Oh Fortuna is an electropop band from Gainesville, Florida. The band makes an interesting blend of ambience and dreamy guitar, at times banjo or high keys, punchy electronic beats and pop melodies. Monsters is an experimental band out of West Palm Beach, Florida. Dark mysterious moods. A black painting. A lot of energy, great guitar melodies, intelligent instrumentation with every instrument really. With technical riffs, there is a mathrock feel to the songs, but instead of dry and hot there is a lot of ambience and imaginative sounds in the songs. On ♦ the mix is perfect and the sound is all instrumental which really makes the songs more interpretable. I think you could definitely dig this if you like The Blood Brothers, Lightning Bolt, or Celebration.

Healthy Animal

Healthy Animal is an experimental project worth attention , the mind of this kid Ameen from Coral Springs, Florida. I've met him a few times at our shows and he recently he sent me his cassette, self-titled Healthy Animal. The sound is very raw and intense. Overdriven untamed ambient melody, steady rhythm, easy to fall into. With the minimalist nature, it's interesting to hear subtle pans in the mix or timbre changing as things morph or fade. Listed as influences, My Bloody Valentine and Pocahaunted have some presence in these tracks; I sort of hear some of The Microphones too. Accomplishing this at 16 years old, I am excited for what Healthy Animal develops into.
